Advertorial Heart Attack (4) <click on picture above to read>

There are many things you can do to help reduce the chances of a heart attack.

IMAGINE spending 10, 20, or 30 years with someone and having a heart attack rob him from you in a matter of minutes. To prevent heart attacks from destroying more lives, here are the two most important things to do:

■ Be alert in recognising the symptoms of a heart attack and get to the hospital immediately.

■ Prevent a heart attack from happening than battling one because you may not win.

Fifty percent of heart attack patients need not die had they known about heart attack symptoms and got help early (within an hour of symptoms appearing). Most people get to the hospital in an average six hours later, by which time it is too late. The symptoms of a heart attack can start off appearing mild – feeling generally unwell, chest or tummy discomfort, jaw pain (like a toothache), breathing difficulties, or dizziness. These are not signs to be ignored, especially if you are already in a high risk group – overweight, taking medication for high blood pressure or high cholesterol, smoking, have parents or siblings with heart disease, etc.

Don’t feel embarrassed to ask for help as time is of the essence. You may not have a chance to be embarrassed if you are dead. Many, many lives can be saved with calm and quick action. Stories of people living alone raising the alarm and then throwing their house keys out the window so help can get in are not unheard of – these are the survivors.

Most of us aren’t ready to say goodbye to our loved ones. Well, having the currency to buy time may be just what you need. Time Currency = Knowledge + Action. A heart attack does not just happen overnight. Over a period of years, the heart and blood vessels would have been under some common stress factors. By knowing what these stress factors are and taking preventive action, it is possible to prevent heart attacks from happening.

Cholesterol – High cholesterol levels are one of the stress factors promoting heart attacks. Fatty cholesterol is prone to attaching itself to the blood vessel walls, thereby causing a blockage. It is therefore important to keep healthy cholesterol levels at all times.

The American Heart Association (AHA) advises the consumption of 2-3g of omega-3 fatty acids daily to maintain good heart health. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oils where its components – EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) – are found to be able to help lower cholesterol levels.

Those who are unable to eat fish daily or for those who don’t even like eating fish, taking fish oil supplements with high omega-3 strengths of at least 500mg EPA and DHA are an easy and efficient way of getting sufficient heart healthy omega-3 oils.

The AHA recommends consumption of at least 6g of omega-3 daily to control cholesterol levels.

Kordel’s recommends: 6 capsules daily of Kordel’s Hi-Omega to achieve the 6 grams Omega-3 recommended by the  American Heart Association.

Blood pressure – High blood pressure or hypertension results when blood vessels harden due to the process of arteriosclerosis. High blood pressure requires the heart to work harder, damages other organs, and greatly increases the risk of a heart attack. It is therefore necessary to keep healthy blood pressure levels.

Recently, a breakthrough Japanese ingredient called bonito fish protein (or also known as katsuobushi oligopeptide) has been found in well established clinical studies to be able to lower hypertensive blood pressure. The Japanese have been using dried bonito in their cuisine for over 1,500 years. A special trademark process has now yielded bonito fish protein. The added advantage of bonito fish protein is that it is free of side-effects familiar to patients under certain hypertensive medication – irritating dry cough, dizziness. Because anti-hypertensive medication is often life-long, it is important to be take a remedy that is comfortable to the patient to encourage long-term compliance.

Kordel’s recommends: 4 capsules daily of Kordel’s BPGard <new> which provides 1.5 grams of the Katsuobushi Oligopeptide (Bonito Fish Protein Powder) to control High Blood Pressure.

Circulation – Keeping a healthy blood circulation ensures that blood reaches the heart consistently. Ginkgo biloba is a well known herb used in many countries as an aid to improving blood circulation. With so many ginkgo biloba products in the market, it takes a trained eye to able to recognise a product that works, these being standardised extracts.

Clinical trials shows that consuming three capsules of standardised extracts of ginkgo biloba 2500 delivers benefits. Look out for the words – standardised actives containing 24% flavonglycosides and 6% ginkgolides and bilobalides.

Kordel’s recommends: Kordel’s Gingko Biloba 2500mg 1 vegicaps daily to improve blood circulation.

Lifestyle – Positive lifestyle changes can also make a big difference. In 2007, a study reported in The American Journal of Medicine found that by adopting four essential lifestyle behaviours, it is possible to reduce heart disease-related deaths by 40%. These include eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI), exercising regularly, and being smoke-free.

By being alert and taking preventive actions, we can actually buy time either for ourselves or our loved ones, so that years of love and togetherness need not end with a one-minute farewell.
