Heart Attack! The one-minute farewell

Advertorial Heart Attack (4) <click on picture above to read>

There are many things you can do to help reduce the chances of a heart attack.

IMAGINE spending 10, 20, or 30 years with someone and having a heart attack rob him from you in a matter of minutes. To prevent heart attacks from destroying more lives, here are the two most important things to do:

■ Be alert in recognising the symptoms of a heart attack and get to the hospital immediately.

■ Prevent a heart attack from happening than battling one because you may not win.

Fifty percent of heart attack patients need not die had they known about heart attack symptoms and got help early (within an hour of symptoms appearing). Most people get to the hospital in an average six hours later, by which time it is too late. The symptoms of a heart attack can start off appearing mild – feeling generally unwell, chest or tummy discomfort, jaw pain (like a toothache), breathing difficulties, or dizziness. These are not signs to be ignored, especially if you are already in a high risk group – overweight, taking medication for high blood pressure or high cholesterol, smoking, have parents or siblings with heart disease, etc.

Don’t feel embarrassed to ask for help as time is of the essence. You may not have a chance to be embarrassed if you are dead. Many, many lives can be saved with calm and quick action. Stories of people living alone raising the alarm and then throwing their house keys out the window so help can get in are not unheard of – these are the survivors.

Most of us aren’t ready to say goodbye to our loved ones. Well, having the currency to buy time may be just what you need. Time Currency = Knowledge + Action. A heart attack does not just happen overnight. Over a period of years, the heart and blood vessels would have been under some common stress factors. By knowing what these stress factors are and taking preventive action, it is possible to prevent heart attacks from happening.

Cholesterol – High cholesterol levels are one of the stress factors promoting heart attacks. Fatty cholesterol is prone to attaching itself to the blood vessel walls, thereby causing a blockage. It is therefore important to keep healthy cholesterol levels at all times.

The American Heart Association (AHA) advises the consumption of 2-3g of omega-3 fatty acids daily to maintain good heart health. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oils where its components – EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) – are found to be able to help lower cholesterol levels.

Those who are unable to eat fish daily or for those who don’t even like eating fish, taking fish oil supplements with high omega-3 strengths of at least 500mg EPA and DHA are an easy and efficient way of getting sufficient heart healthy omega-3 oils.

The AHA recommends consumption of at least 6g of omega-3 daily to control cholesterol levels.

Kordel’s recommends: 6 capsules daily of Kordel’s Hi-Omega to achieve the 6 grams Omega-3 recommended by the  American Heart Association.

Blood pressure – High blood pressure or hypertension results when blood vessels harden due to the process of arteriosclerosis. High blood pressure requires the heart to work harder, damages other organs, and greatly increases the risk of a heart attack. It is therefore necessary to keep healthy blood pressure levels.

Recently, a breakthrough Japanese ingredient called bonito fish protein (or also known as katsuobushi oligopeptide) has been found in well established clinical studies to be able to lower hypertensive blood pressure. The Japanese have been using dried bonito in their cuisine for over 1,500 years. A special trademark process has now yielded bonito fish protein. The added advantage of bonito fish protein is that it is free of side-effects familiar to patients under certain hypertensive medication – irritating dry cough, dizziness. Because anti-hypertensive medication is often life-long, it is important to be take a remedy that is comfortable to the patient to encourage long-term compliance.

Kordel’s recommends: 4 capsules daily of Kordel’s BPGard <new> which provides 1.5 grams of the Katsuobushi Oligopeptide (Bonito Fish Protein Powder) to control High Blood Pressure.

Circulation – Keeping a healthy blood circulation ensures that blood reaches the heart consistently. Ginkgo biloba is a well known herb used in many countries as an aid to improving blood circulation. With so many ginkgo biloba products in the market, it takes a trained eye to able to recognise a product that works, these being standardised extracts.

Clinical trials shows that consuming three capsules of standardised extracts of ginkgo biloba 2500 delivers benefits. Look out for the words – standardised actives containing 24% flavonglycosides and 6% ginkgolides and bilobalides.

Kordel’s recommends: Kordel’s Gingko Biloba 2500mg 1 vegicaps daily to improve blood circulation.

Lifestyle – Positive lifestyle changes can also make a big difference. In 2007, a study reported in The American Journal of Medicine found that by adopting four essential lifestyle behaviours, it is possible to reduce heart disease-related deaths by 40%. These include eating a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI), exercising regularly, and being smoke-free.

By being alert and taking preventive actions, we can actually buy time either for ourselves or our loved ones, so that years of love and togetherness need not end with a one-minute farewell.

This article is brought to you by Kordel’s. In conjunction with World Heart Day 2009, Kordel’s, together with the Heart Foundation of Malaysia (YJM), will be organising a health seminar on October 24, 2009, in the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club, Kuala Lumpur. Influenza A(H1N1) hits record high with 569 cases (Update)

In Uncategorized on August 20, 2009 at 10:19 am

Wearing a mask provides little protection against the H1N1 virus. Boost your Immune System with Kordel's Ester-C 1000mg 24 hour protection

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded its highest number of influenza A(H1N1) cases in a day with 569 infections.

There was also one death, bringing the total number of fatalities to 68.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this indicated that the number of detected cases was still on the rise.

“That’s why our surveillance teams are working hard to detect areas that are persistent in local transmission so we can take measures to cut down on it,” he told reporters on Thursday after attending a campaign on prevention and treating A(H1N1).

It is important to know the difference between common cold and Influenza H1N1.

Make an informed decision and take the right action!
Understand the difference between Cold & Influenza A (H1N1):
Symptoms Common Cold Influenza A (H1N1)
Fever Rare Characteristic, high (38° C) lasts 3-4 days
Headache Rare Prominent
General Ache Pains Usually Slight Often Severe
Fatigue Very Mild Can last up to 2-3 weeks
Extreme Exhaustion Never Early and Prominent
Running/Stuffy Nose Common Sometimes
Sneezing Usual Sometimes
Cough None/Mild Severe, without phlegm in the beginning
Sore Throat Common Sometimes
Chest Discomfort Mild to moderate hacking cough Common: Can become severe

The only treatment available now is Tamiflu, that prevents the replication of the H1N1 virus.

Alternatively, it is suggested that one should boost their immune system. This can be done by taking supplements with well-researched data that supports its effectiveness in boosting the immune system.

The recommended supplements at this critical moments are:

1) Kordel’s Ester-C 1000mg (Adults) or 500mg (Children below 12 years)

- Kordel’s Ester-C has been clinically proven:

a) Increased the activity of White Blood Cells – that are soldiers that ‘eats up’ invading virus/bacteria preventing it from causing harm to the body.

b) Retained in the body for 24 hours! This is important as you do not know when you are exposed to the H1N1 virus.

2) Kordel’s Manuka Honey with UMF 10+

- Lots of clinical research that uses Manuka Honey shows that Manuka Honey with UMF 10+ are capable of killing virus/bacteria that resides in the throat.

- This is an important discovery, as the throat and nose is the ‘point of entry’ for the H1N1 viruses. Having a defence like Kordel’s Manuka Honey with UMF 10+ kills the virus at the ‘point of entry’.

- Recommended dosage: 1 tablespoon daily with a glass of warm water.

3) Kordel’s C-Time 1000mg

- A good choice for individuals with ‘gastric problems’. Kordel’s acid free vitamin C boost the immune system, without irritating the stomach.

We hope that the threat of Influenza H1N1 will soon be gone.

Heart Disease & Omega 3

What’s Wrong with Our Diet Today?

As a nation who loves to eat, we simply consume far too much of Omega 6 fatty acids (vegetable oils) compared to Omega 3 fatty acids (marine oils).Just think about it – 99% of our food today is cooked with Omega 6 vegetable oils (peanut, sunflower, maize etc).Compared to our ancestors millenniums back who were taking roughly equal amounts of Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids (in the ratio of 1:1), our diet today comprises overly high amounts of Omega-6 fatty acids (about ratio of 30:1). This “oily” imbalance is believed to be the cause of an increasing trend in heart disease amongst other degenerative diseases linked to the diet[i].

Major clinical trials have shown that simply by altering our diets to correct the omega imbalance, many beneficial results can be seen in those with pre-existing cardiovascular disease (CVD) as well as in healthy individuals [ii].The easiest way to do this is simply by consuming more Omega 3 fatty acids from the diet.

How does Omega 3 help prevent Heart Disease?

According to data released from the World Health Organisation (WHO), cardiovascular disease (principally heart disease and stroke) is the leading cause of death worldwide today. Omega 3 fatty acids contain the components EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) found majorly in fish.

EPA is the heart-friendly component of fish oil while DHA plays a role in improving brain function.

Omega 3 fatty acids work in various ways to protect from heart disease.

a)      Thins the blood, making it less sticky so blood flows easily throughout the body[i]

b)      Lower levels of harmful fats in the body – Triglycerides and Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL)[ii] while raising levels of the heart-protective fats – High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) [iii]

c)       Stabilise heart muscles prone to arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) [iv]

d)      Reduce inflammation and vasoconstriction, factors which promote plaque formation in the arteries potentially leading to a blockage.[v]

Interesting facts: Eating Fish & A Healthy Heart: The Findings

Fact 1: Men who ate at least some fish weekly had a far lower risk of dying from coronary heart disease (CHD) compared to those who ate none.[i]  [ii]

Fact 2: A 30-year follow-up of the Chicago Western Electric Study More reported that those who eat fish lived longer following CHD.[iii]

Fact 3: Across 36 countries fish consumption was associated with a reduced risk of heart attacks, and stroke mortality.[iv]

“Problem getting enough fish?”

Malaysians simply do not eat enough of oily fishes (found in the cold deep sea) which are high in Omega 3 fatty acids. The fear of heavy metal contamination when eating fresh fish also poses a problem. For these reasons, taking fish oil supplements is now an easy and safe solution in the quest to balance the Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio towards a healthier heart, a healthier you.

Why Kordel’s Hi-Omega is an ideal choice?

  • High Strength
    • EPA/DHA in strength of 300mg/200mg per capsule, which is 50% higher than most fish oils supplement in the market
    • A person will only need to consume 3 capsules daily to achieve the World Heart Federation recommendation of Omega-3 for a healthy heart.
  • Clean, Quality Source
    • Kordel’s Hi-Omega is made from sea harvested, small marine fishes such as the sardina
    • These oily fishes are naturally higher in EPA/DHA content, less likely to accumulate toxins and contain natural antioxidants (astaxanthin, carotene, cryptoxanthin).

Krill Oil supports Brain Development

In Uncategorized on July 11, 2009 at 3:36 am

KrillOil

EVERYONE wants to be smarter, think faster, and remember more of what they have read. Students are expected to score more ‘A’s in the public examinations. The quest for ‘super memory’ is more important in the information age than before.

This has led scientist and researchers to understand how the brain works and what the brain needs to function at the optimal level. It is not until the last few years that scientists has discovered that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) plays an important role in brain health.

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and its role in brain development

Researchers confirm that DHA is the most common fatty acid in the human brain. In fact, DHA constitutes 15% of all brain fatty acids, making it one of the most essential fatty acids the brain needs for proper brain functioning like thinking, talking, memory etc.

DHA plays a pivotal role in the structure and proper functioning of brain cell membranes and cell signalling. DHA deficiency in the brain tissue can result in functional disturbances and delayed brain development.

Common source of DHA

The most common source of DHA is from oily fish such as salmon or tuna. Whilst it boosts higher DHA contents, several researchers show that the DHA are unable to be delivered effectively to the brain where it is needed most.

The BETTER source of DHA – Krill Oil

Unlike fish oils, Krill oil’s DHA are in the form of phospholipids or little packages that delivers the DHA directly to the brain cells. This makes Krill oil a ‘better choice’ of DHA supplement compared to conventional fish oils.

 What is Krill Oil phospholipid?

Phopholipids are building blocks for your cell membranes. This membrane controls what goes-in and goes-out the cells, much like a ‘gate-keeper’. The phospholipids in krill oil, ensures that the gate is opened allowing the DHA to be delivered more effectively to the brain.

What is krill?

Krill are tiny shrimp-like crustaceans that feeds on phytoplanktons found in the pristine Antarctic Ocean. Krill are near the bottom of the food chain and are a major food source for whales, seals and fish. As it is at the bottom of the food chain, it is one of the cleanest and safest omega-3 (DHA) oil available in pharmacy today.

What are the other advantages of Krill Oil over fish oil as a source of DHA?

1)      Less DHA required to boost brain function

The delivery of krill oil, DHA to the brain cells is superb and therefore only 500mg of krill oil is required for children below 12 years and for adults 1000mg of krill oil is required to boost brain function.

2)      Presence of ‘Choline’ essential for learning and memory

The other advantage of Krill Oil, DHA is that the predominant phospholipids is phophatidylcholine, which is partly composed of choline.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the importance of choline in brain development, learning and memory. In fact, choline is particularly important for foetal and infant brain development in pregnant and nursing women.

3)      Powerful antioxidant – Unique red oil of Krill oil

Krill oil is red in colour and can be easily distinguished from fish oils. The ‘red’ colour of krill oil is the powerful natural antioxidant, astaxanthin. Astaxanthin free-radical quenching abilities is 302 times more powerful than Vitamin A and E; 34 times more that Co- enzyme Q10 and 7.5 times more than seaweed astaxanthin.

4)      Safe – Free from heavy metal contamination

Krill is a small shrimp-like crustacean that feed on planktons. It is harvested from the Antarctic Ocean free from pollution and heavy metals. This makes krill oil a safe alternative source of Omega-3.

Krill oil is sold in Malaysia under the Kordel’s brand, Kordel’s Krill-Xanthin.

It is available now at all pharmacies…. Guardian and Caring Pharmacy nationwide.

Winning team: Lo, Thevendran and Thirukumarann with their prizes

Sunday, 24th May 2009 –

400 take part in charity walkathon TAMAN Jaya in Petaling Jaya came alive when more than 400 participants took part in the Kordel’s-Arthritis Foundation Malaysia (AFM) charity walkathon in aid of the Arthritis Fund recently.

The fund was established to help poor patients seek arthritic-related treatments such as joint replacement therapy. Enthusiastic walkers, comprising the young and old, amateur and professionals, were flagged off by Arthritis Foundation Malaysia patron Toh Puan Datuk Seri Dr Aishah Ong and Cambert (M) Sdn Bhd director Dr Daniel Zuellig. The event started on a high note with the presence and support of orthopaedic surgeon Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar, Malaysian’s first astronaut, who sportingly posed with his fans and admirers.

Winning team: Lo, Thevendran and Thirukumarann with their prizes. Other celebrities such as Farhan, Chermaine Poo, Jonathan Putra, Moe Nasrul and Keevan Raj were also there to rally for support. The first prize went to the team comprising B. Thirukumaran, G. Suresh, Lo Choon Seng, and R. Thevendra, who clocked in an impressive time of 1.12.53 to walk away with the grand prize of RM1,000. Consolation prizes comprising Kordel’s health products worth RM500 were also awarded to the subsequent top nine teams.

“In tough economic times, charitable organisations are usually the first to suffer, as people cut back on donations and other forms of contributions. “This has given us all the more reason to organise this joint charity walkathon to highlight the plight of arthritis sufferers. “With a small contribution, everyone has a chance to give back to society, learn about this debilitating chronic condition and enjoy a healthy happy time together,” said Kordel’s Business Unit manager Thomas Lim.

Official media partners from Health & Beauty and MIDI magazine also showed their support by sending their teams to take part. Co-sponsors of the event which included Nivea, Nuvafemme, Juvanex, Bio Oil, Green Magma, Nando’s, Sweet Sweat, Brut, Denim, Ribena and Horlicks gave support in the form of goodie bags worth up to RM100 for each participant.

Walk for your joints

By LIM WEY WEN

TEN days in space had Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha returning to earth a changed person.

Even after the countless interviews he has given on his experience, his enthusiasm is still palpable when he talks about it now.

“Space has definitely changed my perspective on life. Small, petty things do not bother me anymore and I’m more into global issues like hunger and poverty.

sf_05arthritisThe most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis which happens when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in our joints deteriorates over time.

“But the most important thing, for me, is to create awareness on different issues, including diseases.

“That’s why when Kordel’s asked me whether I could be the ambassador for this charity walkathon, I said, ‘why not? This is what I have always wanted to do because it is important to tell people out there that arthritis should be treated and detected at an early age, and it can be prevented’,” he says.

Arthritis (the Greek word for inflammation of the joint) is a group of conditions that damage our joints.

 sf_05sheikhDr Sheikh Muszaphar

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in our joints deteriorate over time.

An orthopaedic surgeon by profession, Dr Sheikh is all too aware that most people do not go to their doctors to seek advice about arthritis until it is too late.

“In fact, arthritis is quite easy to detect. All you need to do is to see a doctor, who will take your history and examine you with some tests, like an x-ray or a MRI,” says Dr Sheikh Muszaphar.

Treatment often starts with physiotherapy, and medications such as painkillers and anti-inflammatories may be given. Surgery is usually the last resort.

“There are also some supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin that could help us prevent (osteoarthritis) from becoming worse,” says Dr Sheikh Muszaphar.

According to pharmacist Thomas Lim, Kordel’s business unit manager, glucosamine, a raw material needed to build cartilage, aids the repair and rebuilding of damaged cartilage.

 sf_05ngThomas Lim

Chondroitin, however, works by reducing the activity of enzymes that break down cartilage and drawing in water – that serves as a lubricant – into the space between the cartilages (synovial space) in the joints.

“It is better if you take both of them together as it has a synergistic effect,” says Lim.

Although glucosamine and chondroitin will help with the pain in the long run, it is different from normal painkillers, he adds.

“This is because they address the core problem of arthritis by promoting the repair of cartilage, whereas painkillers only treat the symptoms.”

Growing up with four physically active brothers and parents who emphasised the importance of living a healthy lifestyle has taught Dr Sheikh Muszaphar the virtues of prevention in any disease.

Education, a good diet and exercise, to him, are essential for keeping diseases at bay.

To prevent arthritis, he says, “First of all, you must understand arthritis. You’ve got to have a very healthy lifestyle at a very young age and you must exercise. The problem with people these days is they say they don’t have time.”

Even for people with arthritis, exercise is important for alleviating symptoms and preventing further deterioration of the joints.

“Most people think they should not exercise when they have arthritis because it makes them feel worse as they have pain and stiffness of the joints,” he says, “But we usually encourage our patients to carry out low-impact sports like swimming and brisk walking.”

When it comes to glucosamine and chondroitin, Dr Sheikh thinks that people should start earlier and not wait until they develop osteoarthritis to benefit from the supplements.

Lim suggests that 30 years old is a safe age to start.

“When people are much younger, they can opt for glucosamine on its own, but people with more severe cases of osteoarthritis or those who are above 40 years old should opt for the mixed (glucosamine and chondroitin) ones,” says Lim.

“Chondroitin on its own has also its own function, but it does not offer the synergistic effect it has together with glucosamine.

Some customers, however, say they could feel the effects even by taking only chondroitin. It depends on the individual,” he adds.

Nevertheless, self-supplementation is not a substitute for a thorough medical consultation. “If you have this problem, you should go to a doctor and seek medical advice,” says Lim.

To join the charity walkathon, which will be held from 7.00am to 11.00am on May 24 May at Taman Rekreasi Taman Jaya (Jaya Park), Petaling Jaya. Just form a team of four and send in your registration forms available at www.kordels.com.my and Guardian and Caring pharmacies by May 22. As part of the Kordel’s-AFM Charity campaign, RM1 will be donated to the Arthritis Foundation Malaysia with every purchase of selected Kordel’s items (labelled with AFM stickers).

Be Smarter. Live Longer. Stay Active. Age More Slowly …. Only with Kordel’s Krill-Xanthin

In Uncategorized on March 15, 2009 at 2:29 pm

BEWARE OF FAKE KRILL OIL – In the market that is using unknown source.

ONLY : Kordel’s Krill-Xanthin is FULL IMPORTED and Made from a renowned source of Krill-Oil backed by over 1000 Clinical Studies!

What is Krill Oil?

Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans that inhabit the pristine cold waters of the Antarctic ocean. Like fish oil, krill oil is rich in Omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, particularly docosahexanoic acid (DHA) and eicosapetaenoic acid (EPA).

There is however a major difference between fish oil and krill oil: in fish oil, the EPA and DHA are present in triglyceride form; whereas krill oil is rich in EPA, DHA and Astaxanthin in a unique phospholipid form.

This unique molecular form gives krill oil a distinct advantage – krill oil EPA, DHA and Astaxanthin are super-easy to absorb and bind directly to our cells to exert their beneficial effects. Best of all, these nutrients are extracted in their purest form as naturally-occurring substances present in krill.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF KRILL OIL

1) Higher IQ – Smarter – For Kids/Adults

2) Regulates Cholesterol Levels – Reduces Risk of Heart Attacks

3) Prevents Knee/Joint Pain

4) Promotes Beautiful Skin/Prevents Wrinkle Formation

5) Relief Pre-Menstrual Syndrome

BEWARE OF FAKE KRILL OIL – In the market that is using unknown source.

ONLY : Kordel’s Krill-Xanthin is FULL IMPORTED and Made from a renowned source of Krill-Oil backed by over 1000 Clinical Studies!

How it works?

Omega-3 (EPA, DHA), Astaxanthin (Antioxidants) and Phospholipids are the THREE main CORNERSTONES to good health and well-being.

You get all these 3 health essentials only with krill oil. There are many proven health benefits of taking krill oil. The most commonly reported benefits are:

Brain

1)      1) BE SMARTER: Krill oil improves mental alertness and focus

Docosahexanoic acid (DHA) and phospholipids are essential nutrients that the brain needs for proper cognitive function and development.

In krill oil, the unique molecular structure of the EPA + DHA + Astaxanthin  in phospholipid form enables it to penetrate the protective layer of the   brain more effectively, so that more of these nutrients are delivered to     the brain than conventional fish oils.

 2) LIVE LONGER: Krill oil reduces the risk of heart attacks

Ingesting krill oil reduces the risk of heart attacks: it regulates cholesterol levels, keeps arteries clean and has anti-inflammatory effects that are beneficial to the cardiovascular system.

In Clinical Studies involving patients with high total cholesterol levels, krill  oil reduced total cholesterol levels by a staggering 13% more than most conventional fish oils. The results were even more impressive in trials involving patients taking an anti-cholesterol drug together with krill oil, as the reduction in total cholesterol was even greater than when taking the drug alone.

These findings have led physicians in the US and UK to recommend   combination therapy as an effective means for patients to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

 3) STAY ACTIVE – Krill oil improves joint flexibility

Osteoarthritis is a condition where the cartilage at the end of the joint wears away. Without the cartilage that acts as a ‘smooth glider’, the ends of the bones rub against each other resulting in pain, joint stiffness and restricted joint movement.

Krill oil helps to preserve healthy joints by controlling the inflammation and free radical activity responsible for the symptoms of osteoarthritis. In a WOMAC Phase II Clinical Study, krill oil was shown to greatly reduce pain and improve joint flexibility.

2570874_blog 4) AGE MORE SLOWLY – Krill oil neutralises harmful free radicals

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that damage DNA and other biological cells, causing premature ageing of the skin and internal organs as well as serious health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, brain degeneration and cancer.

Krill oil is extremely rich in Astaxanthin, an exceptionally strong antioxidant that locates free radicals in the body and has the ability to neutralise and render them harmless.

The antioxidant properties in krill oil are one of the most potent and powerful nature can provide – in tests measuring antioxidant strengths (ORAC values) krill oil has been shown to be 47 times more potent than fish oil, 34 times more powerful than Coenzyme Q-10 and 7.5 times the strength of seaweed Astaxanthin.

 OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS

Krill oil promotes younger looking skin

The Astaxanthin in krill oil acts as an internal sunscreen by protecting the  skin from

harmful UV rays which cause of premature ageing and dryness.

In human trials, Astaxanthin was able to successfully reduce visible signs  of UV-ageing within 4 to 6 weeks of use. Other potential skin benefits from the use of Astaxanthin include visible reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, firmer skin, increased plumpness and moisture, less dryness and reduced risk of skin cancer.

Krill oil helps to alleviate symptoms of PMS

Krill oil significantly reduces the discomfort of painful periods, cramping, and

unpleasant mood swings often associated with PMS. It has been found to be more

effective than omega-3 fish oils for the complete management of premenstrual

           symptoms.

Is Krill Oil better than fish oil?

Krill oil is definitely better than fish oil. Here’s why:

1)      Krill oil is rich in EPA + DHA + Astaxanthin (Antioxidant) in a unique molecular structure that makes it super-bioavailable (super easy to absorb) compared to fish oils.

2)      Krill are tiny crustaceans that feed on plankton. Being at the bottom of the oceanic food chain ensures they are free from contaminants, as opposed to fish where contamination from mercury and other toxins may be a concern.

This makes krill one of the ‘cleanest’ omega-3 oils available in its most natural form.

3)      One of the greatest drawbacks about fish oils is rancidity. With krill oil, the natural Astaxanthin provides a ‘shield’ against oxidation caused by exposure to light. This maintains the freshness of krill oil.

4)      Krill oil is one of the most researched oils in the world and its benefits are well known and accepted among medical professionals in the US  and UK.

Red Seaweed – Nature’s Regulator of Bone Health

In Uncategorized on February 6, 2009 at 2:04 am

Extensive research is currently undergoing on Red Seaweed (Lithothamnium calcaereum). Sold in Malaysia as Kordel’s Organic Vegecal

Globally there are over 9,000 species of seaweed divided into three major types: green, brown and red. Whilst most of these seaweed are popularly used in Japanese cooking, one type of red seaweed species, lithothamnium calcareum caught the interest of scientist and medical practitioners to explore further.

This is following a report in The Journal of Nutrition that several Clinical Trials, red seaweed increases bone density and relief osteoarthritis pain and stiffness.

The link between Parathyroid Hormones (PTH), Calcium and Osteoporosis

Parathyroid glands are two pairs of small, oval-shaped glands located adjacent to the thyroid gland lobes in the neck. The parathyroid glands produce parathyroid hormone (PTH), which plays an important role in the regulation of calcium levels in the blood.

Calcium has several other functions in our body. One of the key functions are maintaining the strength of our bones and the other functions of calcium is to allow normal conduction of electrical currents along the nerves – it is how one nerve ‘talks’ to the next. Our entire brain works by fluxes of calcium into and out of the nerve cells. Calcium is also the primary mineral that causes muscles to contract.

Our bones and teeth act as ‘storage space’ for the mineral, calcium. When there is INSUFFICIENT calcium to satisfy our body needs, our body will release the parathyroid hormones (PTH) resulting in more calcium being removed from the bones, if left uncontrolled this excessive removal of calcium from bones leaving the bones weakened and fragile over time. When bones are constantly exposed to high levels of PTH, they become brittle and are more prone to fractures or better known as ‘osteoporosis’.

Symptoms of High Parathyroid Hormones (PTH) Levels?

A person with high PTH levels, which cause high calcium leeching out into the blood circulation often feels excessive tiredness, sleeps poorly, more irritable and in severe cases a decreased in memory. High PTH levels have been linked osteoporosis and an increased incidence of kidney stones formation.

Red Seaweed

Scientific name: Lithothamnium calcareum.

This unique red seaweed looks more like corals than seaweed  has been shown in Clinical studies to increase bone density naturally and reduces pain associated with Osteoarthritis by regulating the parathyroid hormones (PTH).

Red Seaweed Extract – Nature’s answer to stronger bones and “Pain Free” Osteoarthritis.

1) Increasing Bone Density

By regulating PTH release and making over 74 types of ‘bone building’ minerals available.

Strengthening your bones is now possible at any stage of life with red seaweed. This unique species of red seaweed, Lithothamnium calcareum is power packed with over 74 types of bone-building minerals ranging from calcium, magnesium, chloride, potassium, boron, zinc, copper, selenium and many others in its most readily absorbable form.

In the Clinical Studies lead by Dr. John L Zenk performed at the Minnesota Applied Research Center, it was clinically shown  that red seaweed, Lithothamnium calcareum is effective in increasing bone density by preventing calcium loss from the bones (by regulating the  PTH release) and helps to stimulating bone growth, 2 crucial steps to a stronger and denser bones.

2) Clinically Proven to relief osteoarthritis pain and stiffness.

Red Seaweed encouraging results on increasing the Bone Mineral Density (BMD) have stirred strong interest among scientists leading to a new discovery recently. The Clinical study published in February Issue of Nutritional Journal reports that red seaweed, relief pain and stiffness in patients with moderate to severe osteoarthritis.

This study found that in just over 12 weeks, the overall osteoarthritis symptoms were reduced by a remarkable 15%. The researchers conclude that it is the synergistic effects of the multi-minerals that provide the anti-inflammatory and the anti-oxidant effect that leads to the positive outcome.

Red seaweed extract is a wise alternative to glucosamine for strict vegans or vegetarian as it is 100% natural organic plant based.

Do I need to take a calcium supplement if I am taking the red seaweed extract?

Red seaweed extract, lithothamium calcareum contains over 74 types of bone-building minerals ranging from calcium, magnesium chloride, potassium, boron, zinc, copper, selenium and many others in its most readily absorbable form.

Is it safe to consume red seaweed extract,  lithothamnium calcareum?

Yes, red seaweed extract is safe for consumption.  However, it is advisable to choose only the best grade of red seaweed extract harvested off the clear pristine Atlantic waters off the Southwest Coast of Ireland.

Who should consume red seaweed extract?

Everyone can benefit from taking this natural multi-mineral red seaweed extract. After all, we need strong bones to enjoy the best life has to offer.

It is recommended that women who has a small body frame, do not exercise regularly or any individuals who eats a diet high in meat and low in vegetables to take this red seaweed extract on a regular basis to ensure a strong and dense bones.

Red Seaweed Extract is available in Malaysia in tablet form and is sold as Kordel’s Organic Vegecal.

Is Acid in Your Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) causing you Gastric?

In Uncategorized on February 3, 2009 at 1:29 pm

 happyfamilysmall

Too much stomach acid can cause stomach discomfort and in severe cases causes gastric. Take this after meals to avoid it from causing gastric are common advised by doctors or pharmacists for medications that may cause stomach irritations.

Among all the supplements in the pharmacy today, Vitamin C remain the most commonly purchased vitamin after the ‘must-haves’ multivitamins and minerals. However, little is known that taking the acidic form of vitamin C (eg. ascorbic acid form), may have some effect ‘unpleasant effect’ on the stomach.

What type of Vitamin C should I take?

To answer that, we will need to know the types of Vitamin that is available in most pharmacy today. There are 3 common types of Vitamin C:

Type 1: Vitamin C in Acid-Free form (eg. Kordel’s Acid Free Vitamin C – 100% non-acid)

This is the most popular type of Vitamin C as it is 100% Acid-Free as there are no residues of the acidic form of Vitamin C left in the product.

For individuals who are concern about gastric problems or have ‘sensitive stomach’ this type of Vitamin C in the Acid-Free form is the safest and most recommended type of Vitamin C.

Acid-Free type also the best type of Vitamin C for elderly, busy working executives who skip lunch often, smokers and children. In fact, Acid-Free Form of Vitamin C is suitable for everyone.

Type 2: Vitamin C in Ascorbic Acid Form (eg. Redoxon, Blackmores Vitamin C, Natural Factors Chewable C)

This form of vitamin C is the most common types of vitamin C found in pharmacy. It is in the ‘most basic’ type of vitamin C which is in the ascorbic acid.

Because it is in the ‘Acidic’ form, it is not advisable for individual who have gastric problems or who have ‘sensitive stomach’.

Type 3: Vitamin C in Buffer Form (eg. Blacmores Buffer C – is not 100% acid free)

This form of Vitamin C is the second most common type of Vitamin C found in pharmacy. Buffering is a term used by scientists to show that the Vitamin C has been added with a ‘buffering agent’ to reduce its acidic nature.

However, buffered form of Vitamin C is NOT 100% acid-free.

The buffering process, leaves some ‘acid’ residue in from the ascorbic acid making Vitamin C in Buffer Form only  ‘marginally’ safe for individuals who have gastric problems or who have ‘sensitive stomach’.

Not sure if the Vitamin C you’re taking is Non-Acidic?

Look on the product label. If the in the ingredient panel, the ingredient list includes ascorbic acid or has the word low acid, this means the vitamin C product contains acid.

A 100% Non-Acidic Vitamin C labels should carry the word ‘acid-free’ or ‘non-acid’, showing that the Vitamin C is 100% Non-Acidic.

So, the next time an office colleague or a family member catches a flu or cold, make sure you choose a 100% Non-Acidic type of Vitamin C for him or her.

You’ll choose only 100% Acid-Free Form of Vitamin C, because you care!

This article is brought to you by Kordel’s as part of the ‘Cares Project’. For more information, please call 03-55694337 or 03-55693660 or e-mail: ask-kordels@cambert.com.my

Red Seaweed – Lithothamnium calcareum (Kordel’s Organic Vege Cal)

In Uncategorized on February 2, 2009 at 3:14 am
Red-Seaweed: The answer to Stronger Denser Bones and Pain-Free Arthritis.

A recent report in the Journal of Nutrition, sparks interest among scientists and medical practitioners to explore the health benefits of Red Seaweed. The reports states that the red seaweed, Lithothamnium calcareum increases bone mineral density and helps relieve pain and stiffness among those with moderate to severe arthritis.

Why is calcium supplementation alone not sufficient to increase bone mineral density?

The calcium that our body store in bones and teeth are constantly involved in an exchange with the minerals in our bloodstream. Our bones regularly release calcium into the bloodstream for various important roles that are essential to the normal functioning of our body. However, when there is INSUFFICIENT calcium to satisfy our body needs, our body will release the parathyroid hormones (PTH) from the parathyroid glands. This results in more calcium being removed from the bones, leaving a weakened and fragile over time. When bones are constantly exposed to high levels of PTH, they become brittle and are more prone to fractures. This explains why many people take calcium supplement or dairy products with little or no results.

How do I know if I have High Parathyroid Hormones (PTH) Level?

We need to understand the other functions of calcium in the body to answer the question above. Calcium is a mineral that allows normal conduction of electrical currents along the nerves – it is how our nervous system works and how one nerve ‘talks’ to the next. Our entire brain works by fluxes of calcium into and out of the nerve cells. Calcium is also the primary element which causes muscles to contract.

Knowing these 2 major functions of calcium helps explain why people can get a tingling sensation in their fingers or cramps in the muscles when calcium levels drops below normal. However, in a situation where there is too much of PTH, causes high calcium to leech out into the blood circulation making a person feeling run down, sleep poorly, more irritable and in severe cases a decreased in memory.

It is therefore important to maintain the balance of calcium by regulating the PTH. Several clinical studies on red seaweed extract shows that it is capable of regulating the release of the PTH making it a natural and safer alternative to increasing bone density.
